Couponing 101 Part 2 using Coupons at Big Y, BJ's CVS and Dollar Tree

Now that you know where you can use coupons, let's take a look at the different ways you can save in the stores.

Big Y
Big Y's Policy is pretty straghtforward.  You can read it for yourself here

Highlights of their policy

  • You can only use a total of 5 coupons per ad week
  • When buying a Buy 1 Get 1 Free item you can only use a coupon on the 1 item you are buying and not the free item.
  • A coupon which has a face value which is less than .99 will be doubled
  • The value of the coupon when doubled cannot exceed the value of the item
Big Y has printable coupons that you can use in their store.  They can be found here.

BJ's

As members you get a coupon book e-mailed to you monthly with a wide range of coupons available to use by a certain date in store.
In store you can also find a few different sheets of paper filled with coupons to use in the store.
Or before you even leave the house you decide to check out the printable coupons that Bj's offers to their members.

What if you have a coupon from your monthly book and one from the paper you picked up in BJ's and a coupon you printed from BJ's.com can you use them all?  No you can only use 1 BJ's coupon per item per purchase.

Can I use a BJ's Coupon and Manufacturer coupon?  Yes.
This is what BJ's says about using coupons at their stores.
BJ’s Wholesale Club accepts manufacturers’ coupons for merchandise purchased at the register in any Club where the product is sold. Coupons provided to Members by BJ’s can be redeemed on purchases only. Membership renewal coupons can be used to renew Memberships. BJ’s enforces all rules of redemption as stated on coupons.

How about a multi pack of toothpaste or a two box of cereal can I use more than 1 manufacturer coupon?
Yes.

What are the guidelines for using more than one coupon?

When purchasing a multi-pack, which is a set of items that could be sold individually (each item has a barcode) shrink-wrapped and sold together, Members can combine one BJ’s-issued coupon with manufacturers’ coupons.  However, you cannot exceed the actual retail price in the total value of coupons.
Examples of a multipack:
  • Three-pack of toothpaste
  • Two-pack of salad dressing
  • Three-pack of taco kits
Examples of products that are NOT multi-packs:
  • Box of cereal containing two bags (the bags cannot be sold individually)
  • Case of water
  • Case of soda
  • Case of motor oil
Members may also use one BJ's coupon and one manufacturer's coupon on a single item.
In terms of manufacturers' coupons that are "buy one, get one free," we will honor the coupon for items in stock as long as our price does not exceed the maximum value stated on the coupon. If the manufacturer's coupon does not state the maximum value, we cannot honor the coupon.
We cannot accept multiple BJ’s-issued coupons on a product.

We do not accept mobile coupons at this time.
You can print both of these out and put in your binder using the following two links BJ's & BJ's Link 2

CVS
CVS nicely spells everything out for you here
Highlights for you.
  • You can use a CVS coupon and a manufacturer coupon.
  • If an item is on sale buy one get one free you can use 2 coupons as long as the total value of the coupons does not exceed the total of the item you are paying for.
  • If an item is on sale buy one get one free and you have a buy one get one free manufacturer coupon you can use it on these items, get both for free and only pay tax if applicable.
  • The total value of coupons you are using on items you are buying cannot exceed the transaction amount.  If your coupons total is $5, but you only have $4.00 worth of merchandise you only use your coupons up to the total price of the merchandise.
  • CVS reserves the right to limit the amount of items you can purchase
